For the last 12 years, the association for the preservation of the Glasmakers’ Chapel in Theresienthal organises - always on Easter Monday – an Emmaus Pilgrimage in the awakening nature. In Zwiesel it is devoted to glass – how could it be otherwise in Zwiesel. Each year, many hundreds of believers take part in this lovely old custom.
Over 100 years ago, glassmakers from Theresienthal took part in this old Emmaus custom on Easter Monday. Their destination then was not a chapel but an inn where festive drinking took place. Over the years, this custom disappeared. When, in 2001, the Theresienthal Glassworks, which had provided local employment for a long time, was about to be declared bankrupt, the association for the preservation of the chapel reintroduced this custom but added a procession for the preservation of the profession of glassmaking.
