The Zwiesel area, in both the Natural Park and the Bavarian Forest National Park, is an Eldorado for cyclists and bikers. The Bavarian Forest and the National Park have more than 800km of lovely cycle routes and they are challenging for everyone, whether a leisure cyclist or ambitious sportsman or woman. From light, easy routes, perhaps along the rivers to Regen or Bayerisch Eisenstein or more challenging, longer routes, everyone can put together their own individual route.
The area around Zwiesel is a secret place especially for mountain bikers. Among more than 20 routes, there are some with an altitude variation of 500-700 meters. That is a real challenge even for ambitious sporty types. If you want a somewhat easier route, that is also no problem. Many places have cycle routes without significant altitude variations. Or you tour the region easily with an e-bike, which you can rent economically in Zwiesel at Adventure-Bike, Radsport Leitl or Zweirad-Sporrer.
For families with children, Zwiesel is a great starting point for easy cycle routes. All exits to the town have easy cycle paths to the surrounding villages. And if you run out of steam: the train journey by Waldbahn back to Zwiesel is free – just a small charge for the bike. And in the neighbouring National Park, at certain times of the day, the hedgehog buses (Igelbusse) have bike attachments. Discover the region using 1000 kilometres of marked cycle routes, there is certainly something for everyone. Of course Tourist Information Zwiesel has cycle maps and suggested routes for mountain bikers as well as families.
